Konak Municipality, in collaboration with Mülkiye Alumni Association Izmir Branch, organized the Nermin Abadan Unat Migration Symposium to draw attention to the significance of migration studies in our country and to increase awareness in this field. The symposium took place on Saturday, November 12th, at the Selahattin Akçiçek Cultural Center, where prominent figures working in the migration field participated as speakers.
Among the symposium sessions, experienced individuals in the field of migration shared their research and experiences with the attendees. Dr. Zakira Hekmat, the Founder and President of the Afghan Refugees Solidarity and Cooperation Association, was one of the speakers in the session titled 'Situation in Their Countries and Turkey from the Perspective of Refugees.'
During her speech, Dr. Zakira Hekmat conveyed the challenges faced by refugees who were forced to leave their country due to conflicts and crises in Afghanistan. She also discussed the current situation of Afghan refugees in Turkey. Driven by the urgency and humanitarian aspects of war and migration, she shared the dedicated efforts of her association in providing solidarity and support to Afghan refugees.
Other sessions of the symposium focused on various dimensions of migration, such as its economic, social, cultural, and political implications. Academics, researchers, and experts shared valuable insights on the effects of migration, refugee rights, integration processes, and the importance of international cooperation. The presentations and panel discussions enriched the knowledge of the participants and provided them with different perspectives on the topic.
The Nermin Abadan Unat Migration Symposium provided a valuable platform for academics, experts, and civil society organizations working in the field of migration to come together and exchange their experiences and work. We extend our gratitude to Konak Municipality, Mülkiye Alumni Association Izmir Branch, and all other supporters who contributed to the organization of this fruitful event. We believe that such gatherings play a significant role in increasing societal awareness and enhancing consciousness about migration-related issues.
